    BRIEF
An immersive experience of history, heritage and antiquities with Arabs and Muslims to be mirrored in the printed journal, Rewaq.

This biannual journal produced in Arabic and English mainly, with some articles in French, documents an in-depth look at enriching cultural and life by inviting specialized leading scholars and researchers to contribute so as to be a window of intellectual communication between the East and the West.

The brief was to design masthead, cover and inside pages, which should reflect the richness of the Arabic culture and should be a unique presentation amongst the other similar journals from design perspective.

    MASTHEAD
Designed masthead in Arabic and English, taking inspiration from Kufic Style, an oldest calligraphic form of the various Arabic scripts, which suited well to reflect the history and heritage theme of the jounal.

Moreover, the Kufic style helped in keeping the consistency in the letterform and masthead design, for both Arabic and English.

    GRID, FONTS AND STOCK
Designed a 28 module grid structure for the inside pages based on the selection of fonts, for both Arabic and English text.

Frutiger Lt Arabic and Adobe Jenson Pro were used for text on inside pages.

Rives Tradition, a textured matt stock/paper used to print the cover and insdie pages.

    ARABESQUE PATTERN
Arabesque pattern was designed and used as a divider and article starter in the entire journal.

A stop-motion movie is included as a separate attachment showing the process of creating the Arabesque pattern as well as movie on the book design.

    BOOK COVER DESIGN
The masthead was foil stamped and the background was covered with solid colour.

Every issue have a different solid PMS colour and complementing foil stamp creating a stark contrast and at the same time easily recognised in the bookshelf.
