Project Title: Oculus/MTV – See Your Evil

In support of the release of paranormal thriller Oculus, MTV partnered with Relativity Media to extend plot elements from the film across key MTV programming to broaden interest in the film while relating directly to our viewers. Creative featured Teen Wolf star Holland Roden in a short-form branded series inspired by the film’s supernatural mirror. Viewers decided how the story would unfold by tweeting custom hashtags in the weeks leading up to release. The series kicked off on-air and online when Holland fell victim to the power of the mirror, her fate left hanging in the balance. In the days following, fans tweeted their preferred ending before MTV revealed the audience-directed outcome during original primetime programming.
By extending the film’s premise into our original slate and embedding a social engagement call to action, the campaign created buzz worthy content that trended on Twitter while driving awareness for the film and pushing to opening box office.
