Project Title: Obsidia Men’s Grooming Gift Set

OBJECTIVE

  • Design an innovative men’s grooming gift set package
  • Appeal to men in the age range of 18-35
  • Have visible distinctions that set it apart from competing brands
  • Attract beauty bloggers and editors as well as rival companies
  • Spin-off  into a women’s cosmetic collection
  • Structure must include:
  • Paperboard as primary packaging substrate
  • Serve as a merchandise display
  • Easily to convert back into a package for purchase I transport

PROCESS

  • Audit and Analyze (A&A)
  • Consumer buying  habits and packaging handling (via surveys and consumers / retailers  interviews)
  • Retailer visits  to observe  POP display and merchandising
  • Research structural  references outside the beauty  category
  • Utilize findings from A&A to develop the project’s  design criteria
  • Explore structures, refine final direction, and develop final dielines
  • Explore naming,  branding, and visual identity concepts
  • Finalize the brand identity signature
  • Develop a marketing plan

AUDIT & ANALYSIS

Based on the consumers’ surveys and numerous interviews…

  • More than 60% bought men’s grooming gift sets before:
  • 98% male consumers buy the gift sets for themselves
  • 80% female consumers buy the gift sets for their father or other relatives
  • 20% female consumers buy the gift sets for their partners
  • 60% citing packaging graphics and product information as the most significant factor
  • More than 70% prefer innovative and expensive packaging

DESIGN CRITERIA

Based on our findings, our package should…

  • Secure three 3oz grooming products in one package: wash, lotion and scrub
  • Create a structure that can be easily transfomed into a display
  • Create an innovative, distinguished storage and display structure which attracts consumers immediately
  • Design a high-end gift set package that implies a modern luxurious lifestyle
  • Spin-off  into a women’s cosmetic collection
