    Background

    Organized by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, the Hong Kong Houseware Fair is held annually at the HK Conference and Exhibition Centre. An image uplift on the fair’s overall ambience was required by the fair organiser. The areas provided would include a welcome installation located at the venue’s entrance foyer, a series of trend forecast displays at different entry points into the exhibition halls and a central display area inside the exhibition hall area. 

     

    Design concept

    Our approach for the welcome signage installation and various organizers space was to build a scenic setting using every day houseware objects to create a chain reaction effect scenario like the famous board game Mouse Trap. Titled “Living in Fun” we integrated the trend forecast’s colors and materials pallets into our design. This served as a visual connection between the organizer’s areas and trend forecast display areas.

     

    Signage installation/ entrance treatment/ central display

    Located at the venue’s entrance foyer 2 LED screens 10ft (w) x 12ft (h) and 10ft (w) x 15ft (h) would transmit images of our “Living in Fun” mood video. In front of these screens an oversized automated moving seesaw, ramps and turntables with household objects would be placed to provide a kinetic feel. Our purpose was to heighten the visitor’s first impression and experience at this fair.

     

    As the visitor journeyed towards the main exhibition hall entry point, our “Living in Fun” concept continues. Inside the main exhibition hall situates a central display area, suspended above this, houseware objects would move up and down to continue our kinetic reaction theme. Besides these main areas, various entry points into the other exhibition halls would be converted into 3D physical trend forecast display installations with a purpose to educate and uplift the overall ambience of this fair.
