Project Title: Hong Kong Gifts & Premium Fair 2018
Client or Class Name: Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) - www.hktdc.com
Organized by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), the “HK Gift & Premium Fair” is held annual at HK Convention & Exhibition Centre. Being one of the largest trade fair of its kind in Asia, the event organiser wanted to uplift the overall ambient. Both the welcome signage installation at the venues main entrance and the main entry point into the exhibition hall required a design.
The design had to be draw the visitors’ attention, be cost effective and avoid any use of heavy wooden structures. Furthermore, only 3 days onsite setup were allowed.
From the onset, our proposal was to convey fun and happiness for the visitors as a first impression, we began by making references to vibrant pixelated colours and patterns from 80’s video gaming culture. From this “Pixel Love!” was developed as our design concept.
Since we only had 3 days to setup and heavy wooden structures were to be avoided. All the structural formats used were constructed from reusable aluminium structures and finished in either foamboard or mounted vinyl graphics. The welcome signage had 2 large LED screen backdrops emitting 80’s arcade gaming motion graphics. Placed in front of the LED screens were oversized 3D printed lit icons and word bubbles to complete the thematic setting for visitors to take interaction and selfies.
For the exhibition hall’s entrance treatment, our “Pixel Love” concept continued with an enlarged cut out giftbox icon situated at the front. Behind this, three metal claw vending machines housing giant donuts, giftboxes and love hearts are placed. Both sides of the adjacent walls were covered in vinyl graphics. Visitors passing through this space would experience sound effects mimicking classic 80’s games before they enter the exhibition hall’s exhibitors’ booth area.
Judge Commentary – “This is an awesome execution. Great graphics and lighting. Looks surreal!”
