A new marketing show named CENTRESTAGE was launched at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. Its purpose was to promote over 190 contemporary fashion brands. The 4 day show covered an area of 23,000sq ft. The design brief was to uplift the image of the organiser’s space such as the outer concourse, inside of the exhibition hall’s main avenue and multi-purpose arena.
Apart from only 3 days for onsite setup, another challenge was the proposed design theme had to be impartial to accommodate the various fashion styles being showcased.
By providing an abstract approach, the design concept “Starlight Transform”derived from CENTRESTAGE‘s mission as the place for finding new talent. Our idea for the physical space would begin with a star-like sculpture made of strip lighting and lines made of metal square hollow sections. We then deconstructed variations of these materials to form different shapes throughout the visitors’ journey.
At the concourse, a glowing exploding star-like sculpture in front of a 12ft x 32ft white backdrop starts the journey. Materials making this sculpture are subliminally reassembled in different configurations and locations prior to entering the exhibition hall. Interspersed 12ft high motion graphic projections, LED screen, designers fashion collection and mobile art are displayed in the concourse.
For the main avenue inside the exhibition hall, a fragmented gridded tunnel (980sq.ft.) guides the visitors towards a 30ft radius grey circular space. Contained are 2 floating white discs at 15ft (h) and directly below the same size white discs are embedded on the floor. To complete the impartial ambience of this open arena, a series of vertical strip lighting are randomly placed. During the show period fashion parades, cocktail receptions and trend forums were activated in this multi-purpose space.
