Project Title: You Can Speak Up | Amnesty International
Client or Class Name: Art Direction - www.miamiadschool.com

Amnesty International Idea:

Young adults require something extraordinary to get their attention. They were born in the digital era, so they are used to numerous causes asking for their time. The thing Human Rights needs most from young people is time. That’s why “You Can Speak Up” directly engages young adults in a space they do not expect: the Captcha password system. With our project, we demonstrate how easily Human Rights injustices occur unnoticed. When participants engage with the system, they learn that much like a regular Captcha system, Human Rights injustices just need some of their personal attention to fix the situation.

Importance of the Idea:

“You Can Speak Up” goes a long way to promote Intersectionality, one of the most important elements of Human Rights advocacy. Intersectionality describes the ways in which oppressive institutions (racism, sexism, xenophobia, etc.) are interconnected and cannot be examined separately from one another. Our project honors every social group that is at the expense of oppression. In a time when social causes are fighting each other for the attention of the masses, we are trying to find a way for everyone to speak up for all victims of hate.
