Biyahe (meaning “Journey” in Tagalog) is an accordion-bound book on how my family came to be naturalized U.S. citizens. When completely laid out, it becomes a 50-foot long narrative of the 21 years that it took for the process to happen. Additional folds were also included to condense the story and “bend” at certain turning points. The entire book is treated like a document, with ink-stamped dates and locations. All imagery came from scans of family photographs and the legal documents used/given; while the copy was transcribed from recorded conversations and scans of handwritten notes.
Judge Commentary: “Wonderfully done”
